In the fall of 2015, Kyle Pond found himself heading down the wrong path. After being kicked out of school and put on probation, he enrolled in an alternative high school in Marine City, Michigan. Through project based learning, he began to flourish. In talking with other students, he realized there is a huge need in this area for a teen center. The vision started as Kyle's class project, and by enlisting the help of teachers, students, and community leaders, his vision is becoming a reality.
Over five years in the making, River Rec Teen Zone is now a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a strong board, teen advisors, and volunteers. Each individual brings with them an incredible background in youth enrichment, as well as being proven leaders that understand the importance of community and youth nurturance.
